Accessibility Statement

We want every family member — of every age and ability — to be able to use Dehay.

Last updated: 25 August 2026

Our commitment

Dehay is built for families spanning generations, which means our users include children, grandparents, and people who rely on assistive technology every day. Accessibility is treated as a product requirement, not an afterthought: it is part of design reviews, code review, and our release checklist for both the mobile app and this website.

Standards we follow

  • WCAG 2.1 Level AA — our target conformance level for this website and the Dehay mobile app.
  • EN 301 549 and the Norwegian regulations on universal design of ICT (administered by Digdir/UU-tilsynet).
  • Apple Human Interface Guidelines accessibility requirements — VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, and Reduce Motion.
  • Android accessibility guidelines — TalkBack, font scaling, and minimum 48dp touch targets.

What we have done

  • Colour contrast of at least 4.5:1 for body text in both light and dark themes.
  • A light/dark theme toggle that also respects your system preference.
  • Full keyboard operability with a visible focus indicator on every interactive element.
  • A “Skip to main content” link as the first focusable element on every page.
  • Semantic landmarks (header, nav, main, footer) and a logical heading order with a single H1 per page.
  • Focus is moved to the page heading after navigation, and route changes are announced to screen readers.
  • Decorative animations are disabled when your device requests reduced motion.
  • Text alternatives for icons and labels on all icon-only controls.

Assistive technology we test with

  • VoiceOver (iOS, macOS/Safari)
  • TalkBack (Android)
  • NVDA with Firefox and Chrome on Windows
  • Keyboard-only navigation and 200% browser zoom
  • Automated checks with axe-core and Lighthouse on every page

Known limitations

Some areas are still being improved. The animated app preview on the home page is decorative and is hidden from screen readers; a static description of each screen is available on the individual feature pages. Short videos shared inside the app are created by family members, so we cannot guarantee captions on user-generated content — we are working on automatic captions for D-hay.

How to request help or report a barrier

If you run into something you cannot use, tell us and we will help you directly while we fix it. Email [email protected] with the subject line “Accessibility”, and include the page or screen, the device and assistive technology you use, and what happened.

We aim to reply within 5 working days. If we cannot make something accessible right away, we will offer an alternative way to complete the task.

Enforcement

If you are not satisfied with our response, users in Norway can contact the Norwegian Authority for Universal Design of ICT (UU-tilsynet, part of Digdir). Users in the EU can contact their national enforcement body under the Web Accessibility Directive.
